How selling by weight works in Shopify POS
Shopify counts whole units, so a product priced at 2.99 is 2.99 each. VahaPOS reads that price as a rate, per kilogram, per pound or per 100 grams, takes a weight, and adds the item to the cart at the right total. The weight can be typed in, read from a connected scale, or printed on a label by a self-service kiosk.

Sell by weight in Shopify: common questions
Can Shopify POS sell products by weight?
Not on its own. Shopify counts whole units. VahaPOS adds a tile to Shopify POS that takes a weight, multiplies it by your price per kilogram, pound or 100 grams, and adds the item to the cart at that price. It works on iPad and Android POS.
Do I need a scale to sell by weight in Shopify?
No. With manual weight entry, staff read the weight from any scale and type it into the VahaPOS tile. A connected scale or a self-service kiosk removes the typing but is optional.
Which scales work with Shopify POS through VahaPOS?
Any scale with an RS-232 serial output, connected through the VahaPOS Scale companion app. Profiles ship for CAS (including the PD-II), Bizerba, OHAUS, Dibal and US Solid, plus a generic auto-detect mode. The CAS SW-10RS is the recommended model.
Does VahaPOS work on Shopify Plus and on Basic Shopify?
Yes. All plans work. On Shopify Plus the cart line item is updated in place; on other plans it is expanded into a new line. The price and the receipt are the same either way.
How does inventory work when products are sold by weight?
VahaPOS keeps its own ledger measured in weight and moves Shopify stock by whole units when enough weight has accumulated. You can correct stock per product or in bulk with a CSV.

Can Shopify POS scan weight-embedded barcodes?
Yes, with the VahaPOS Barcode to Variant tool. It reads the EAN-13 barcodes that begin with 2, creates a Shopify variant for each pack weight priced at your per-kilogram rate, and Shopify POS then scans those packs on its own.
Can customers weigh their own produce?
Yes. A kiosk is an Android scale with a built-in label printer running the VahaPOS companion app. The customer picks a product, weighs it, and takes a barcode label to the till.
